What is a SHSM?
A SHSM is a ministry-approved specialized program that allows students to focus their learning on a specific sector while meeting the requirements to graduate from secondary school. These programs assist students in gaining career specific skills and knowledge to help them with the transition to postsecondary, workplace or training for future careers.
Students get to customize their high school experience, explore new ways of learning and get a 'leg up' to their post-secondary destination of choice (apprenticeship, college, university or the workplace).
Learn how your child can take advantage of these vibrant and exciting programs by contacting the guidance department or the lead teacher for the SHSM offered at SRB.
How Does a SHSM Work?
Students take a bundle of credits associated with their SHSM. Including English, math, science/social science and a co-op placement.
What are the Benefits of a SHSM?
Customize their secondary school education to suit their interests and talents.
Earn credits that postsecondary educational institutions and the sector recognize.
Gain sector-recognized certification and career-relevant training.
Identify, explore and refine career goals and make informed decisions about their future.
Remain flexible, with the option to shift between pathways, should their goals and plans change.
