We welcome our students back this coming Monday, January 17, 2022. 
Note: This message was also sent by email to all SRB parents/guardians Friday January 14, 2022. If you did not receive it, please check your SPAM/Junk folder.

There has been a lot of communication this week from various sources.  I just wanted to provide a summarized update to the SRB Community so that students and families know what to expect as we welcome our students back this coming Monday, January 17, 2022.  While we are very happy to welcome our students back in person, I know there is a lot of uncertainty and unease right now given the Omicron variant; our goal remains to provide the safest in-person learning environment possible.  I would like to thank our dedicated SRB staff for their tremendous efforts during the remote learning period.  

Daily Screening

Each day, all students must complete the COVID-19 Screening before they come to school.  Parents are asked to ensure that this occurs in your household before your child goes to school. Teachers will also be asking students to confirm that this was completed at the present time.

It may be busy on Monday, so families are encouraged to look at the screening tool in advance to familiarize themselves.  Ottawa Public Health has also developed a graphic that explains the Ontario COVID-19 Screening.  (attachment) 

Review of COVID Safety

On Monday morning, all SRB classroom teachers will be doing a review of COVID Safety with students.  We will be using a common Slideshow, which is available for your viewing as well. Please note there are some operational differences between Intermediate (Grade 7-8) and Secondary (Grade 9-12) students. These protocols have been in place all year, in addition to the PPE, increased ventilation, HEPA, classroom specific safety protocols, enhanced cleaning that we are following based on Ontario, school district, and OPH guidance.  Our collective efforts in following these measures will help us all stay as safe as possible. Thank you for your continued cooperation. 

Ministry 3-ply cloth masks

As announced by the Ontario Ministry, each student will be provided with two, individually wrapped, 3-ply cloth masks.  They are reusable and washable for 20 uses.  They are being provided as a supplement for student use; students should continue to bring their own properly fitting mask to school.  Distribution will occur during AM classes the week of January 17 by classroom teachers. 

Student Absences

If your child is absent from school because they failed the screening tool, or they must stay home because a member of the household has COVID symptoms, please notify the school as per normal procedure of any absence through [email protected].

Google Classroom

Each teacher has a Google Classroom/Virtual Learning Environment to keep track of assigned work for students in a given day/week.  If your child is away and is still able to work on school while at home, they can engage in learning asynchronously. Because we are an in-person model, teachers are not expected to provide synchronous (live) instruction.  If your child has questions while away from school, they can reach out to their teacher via e-mail, connect with a student classmate, or access OCDSB Virtual Tutoring from 4-7pm Monday-Thursday.

Limited/Restrict Access to School

The school remains closed to visitors/parents at this time.  If you need assistance please call the school at (613) 829-5320.  We are happy to answer your questions, and can arrange virtual meetings or phone calls as needed.

School Drop Off/Pick up

Parking is at the rear lot behind the school and administration building.  The front traffic circle is reserved for student transportation vehicles at the end of the day.  We encourage you to use neighbouring areas of the school during peak periods should you need to pick up your child, and have your child walk a block.

Chromebook Return

If you borrowed a school device during the remote learning period, please bring the device with charger back to the school.  Intermediate students will return chromebooks and chargers in their homeroom class. High school chromebooks and chargers are to be returned to the library. We ask for these devices to be returned by Wednesday. 

Pause on in-person extracurriculars

There is a temporary pause on all in-person extracurricular activities within the OCDSB that had previously been permitted to begin (e.g. in-person high school clubs, in-person high school athletic teams, in-person student council grade based events, etc.)   Virtual clubs/extracurriculars may continue.

School Photos

School Photos (including Grad Photo Retakes) have been delayed at this time.  When we have more information to share we will communicate. 

Intermediate (Grade 7-8) Reminders

Please dress appropriately for the weather.  We do go outside every day unless it is -25 or below.  This coming Friday January 21, 2022 is a PA Day - there is no school for Elementary students on this day.
