Parent Update Sept. 11 - Grade 9 to 12
Secondary In Person Model Update
Over the past two days, Grade 9-12 students received an overview of their course and began working on one of their courses. Teachers also provided students with their timetables to students. As everyone is new to the quadmestering model, as well as the secondary adapted model, I wanted to address a couple of items related to this model.
Students take two courses each quadmester (Quadmester 1 is September 10-Nov 13). Students attend on alternate days depending on their Cohort. The course they are working on alternates each week.

Teachers will be developing a Week at A Glance, and will be posting on a Learning Management System for students (Google Classroom or Brightspace). This will set the work for the week to manage both in person and the at home cohort on a given day. When students are at home, they will be provided independent learning, and will have a synchronous opportunity to connect with their classroom teacher.
Student Arrival / Lates / Appointments
Thank you for dropping off your children in the nearby community neighbourhoods, encouraging walking/biking to help us manage our staggered entry into the building. Grade 9-12 students can enter the building from 9:00-9:15. Students head directly to class, which starts at 9:15. If a student is late, they should head directly to class. A reminder that Grade 9-11 students enter at the front of the school in grade specific doors, and Grade 12 students enter at the back of the school from the parking lot (entrance J - between the two gyms on the left side).
If a student needs to sign out for an appointment, please notify the school in advance via e-mail at srbattendance@ocdsb.ca or call us at 613-829-5320. This information must be provided by parents/guardians and recorded by the school main office in advance in order to allow a student to leave.
Students taking the yellow school bus will have a designated seating plan which has been developed by the school; students with siblings will be grouped together, and other students will be seated by class/grade cohorts. Students must also wear a mask on the bus.
Student Illness
If your child is sick/has cold/flu symptoms, please do not send your child to school. Each day, parents/guardians need to complete the COVID-19 Self Assessment prior to sending their child to school. Students must be symptom free for a minimum of 24 hours prior to returning to school, or provide medical documentation clearing them for a return to school.
If a student begins to have symptoms while at school, we will call you to arrange for pick-up.
More information about how the OCDSB is working with Ottawa Public Health is available here.
Should you have additional questions please contact the school.
Many thanks,
Matt Gagnier
