Parent Update Sept 9 - Grade 9 to 12
Posted on 09/09/2020

I hope you had a good long weekend.  Today we welcomed back Grade 9 students in Cohort A for Link Crew Orientation, and tomorrow (Wednesday) we will welcome back Grade 9 Cohort B students.  As we prepare for the first day of regularly scheduled Grade 9-12 classes this Thursday (Cohort A) and Friday (Cohort B), I wanted to share an update with you.  Thank you in advance to all our SRB families for their understanding and patience as we navigate new directives, finalized staffing and created a new timetable.

Thursday September 10

Grade 9,10,11,12 - Cohort A (Last Name A-K)

Period 1 Class Begins, attends in-person every other day

Friday September 11

Grade 9,10,11,12 - Cohort B

(Last Name L-Z)

Period 1 Class Begins, attends in-person every other day

Additional communications were sent out today to families who have Grade 7-8 students.  Their homeroom teachers will be in touch this week with additional details. Grade 7’s will begin on September 14, and Grade 8’s begin on September 15 (information was communicated last week around this).

Prior to coming to school / arrival

All students and staff will need to complete the Covid-19 Self-Assessment each day prior to coming to school.

A reminder that parents/guardians are asked to please only drop off students in the nearby community neighbourhoods, not on OCDSB property, to avoid congestion and help manage physical distancing during peak periods.

Homeroom/Timetables

Students will receive their timetables from their period 1 teacher when they arrive at school for the first time.   Grade 9 students are receiving this as part of Link crew orientation.  Students and families in Grade 10-12 will be emailed their cohort assignment and period 1 class (with room number) by noon on Wednesday September 9th.

Grade Designated Entrances/Exits

When students arrive to school on their designated cohort day, they will enter the building in designated areas, hand sanitize, and proceed directly to class.  We ask that students arrive between 9:00-9:15 as that is when we will have supervision for physical distancing; Classroom teachers will be waiting to greet students as of 9:00, for a 9:15 start.   Designated student entrance/exits are as follows:

Grade 9, 10, 11 - Main entrance/exit  (the front of the school at the laneway)

Grade 9 Stairwell is inside facing Greenbank road.  Grade 9 students are shown this through Link Crew Orientation Days.

Grade 10 Stairwell is immediately to the right of their doorway entrance/exit.

Grade 11 Stairwell is immediately to the left of their doorway entrance/exit.

Grade 12 Entrance/exit - This is the exterior door that faces the parking lot at the back of the school.  This is also the Grade 12 stairwell.

*If a student has class in a Portable, they can head directly to the portable.

Some important information about school this year:

  • Students will enter/exit the building using the above Grade designated entrances/exits
  • Students/staff will practice physical distancing, and need to be 2m apart, and wear masks while inside the building.
  • Students will hand sanitize when entering the building, and when they arrive in their classrooms.
  • Students will have grade designated stairwells to use if they are required to go upstairs.
  •  Students are asked to keep their belongings with them in their classroom and bring them home each day.  For student safety, there will be no lockers available.
  • Within the classroom, each student will have an assigned seat for contact tracing purposes.
  • Students will need to bring: mask(s), water bottle, food/snacks which they are allowed to eat in their classroom.  Currently there are no cafeteria services/vending machines available.
  • Students can only use the washroom during the instructional learning blocks.
  • There are no visitors allowed in the school at this time.  Limited access to staff and students only will help prevent the spread of Covid-19.
  • We will be staggering the dismissal manually by Grades to facilitate exit.
