What is the event?

Ability Empowerment Day is a forum at Brock University. High school students (grades 9-12) experiencing disability are invited to attend to discover opportunities in post-secondary education. The goal of the event is to create a space where students can come together to participate in a forum to learn about different departments and services, exchange ideas, gain perspectives, and learn advocacy skills centred around post-secondary education. The vision of Ability Empowerment Day is to imagine a world where all people are treated equitably in education.

Who is invited?

This event is open to students in grades 9 through 12 who self-identify as having a disability. Guidance counsellors and educators are also asked to encourage students that they feel would best benefit from attending the event, based on the following definition of disability that is outlined on the Ontario Human Rights Commission of Ontario website.

How and when to register

Please share the registration link below with all students who will be participating. We ask that they individually sign-up for the event so they can select the three sessions of their interest that they will be participating in.

Student registration closes on April 26.

Please note: A limited number of ASL interpreters will be available to assist with the virtual event. Brock University is committed to providing accessible space and we will provide accommodations upon request. At time of registration, you can identify any accommodations that will be needed.

We ask that you please forward this email to all relevant colleagues within your school.
