Principal's Message

Hello to SRB students and their families;

The school year is off to a great start with the first half of semester 1 completed. It was wonderful seeing so many families at SRB during our recent Parent Teacher Interviews. On Thursday, November 21st, all report cards will be distributed to students at the end of the day; please call the Main Office if you do not receive one.

In terms of renovations, the new Grade 7/8 Gym and Loft areas were completed on time and opened on the first day of school. The whole parking lot was repaved. We have some outside areas with a new roof and many new windows or doors. Still under construction is the Family Studies Room and it will be amazing when it is finished, hopefully before the end of this semester.

A Semester 1 exam schedule will be included with your student’s report card. It is important to remember that students must write final exams. Therefore, requests for travel, sports or work made by students or parents, to leave the school before the end of term cannot be approved. Evaluations of student achievement require that all students be in classes until the course is completed and that every student completes their evaluations according to the schedule established by SRB and the OCDSB. The exam period for Semester 1 is January 27 –30, 2020.  Semester 2 exams will run from June 17 to 22, 2020. We thank you for honouring these time periods.

On Tuesday, October 29th, the Guidance Department hosted a College & University Information Evening. It is always exciting to start thinking about post-secondary pathways!  Unfortunately, Prom is a non-school sanctioned event as are all of the fundraising events associated with Prom.

We would like to take this opportunity to remind you about the Opportunity Shop, a student support initiative. It is the goal of the Opp Shop to offer both gently used clothing as well as new hygiene products, (including deodorant, tooth brushes, tooth paste, soaps etc), free of charge to students in need. If your child would benefit from this initiative then you or your child should contact the school guidance department or school administration. Confidentiality is ensured.

SRB also offers nutritious breakfasts and morning snacks for students in need. Please drop by Room 211 for High School students and Room 245 for Intermediate students to pick up a snack to eat on the way to class. Having a healthy snack in the morning has been proven to enhance learning!

We believe in a strong bond between home and school. We know that when parents are involved in school, their children do better in school. Again this year, our School Council Chair is Carmen Parsons. The Council is an effective voice of parents and it has been a strong advocate for good things at SRB. Our next meeting is Tuesday, January 14th at 7 PM in the library. Please join us.

Thank you to all students and their families for their continued support at SRB. On behalf of all staff, I would like to wish everyone a safe and Happy Holiday Season.

Kind regards,

Wendy Verreault
